Glossary
This glossary was made to help you understand the meaning of some technical expressions or names. It is not exhaustive of course.
- ACI (anti-corrosion integrated):
Technological innovation specific to ACI water heaters. It provides
maximum, continuous protection against corrosion for the tank (hard or
aggressive water) featuring a titanium anode and an electronic circuit.
- ASP (Anti-Fouling Process):
Technological innovation that limits the natural formation of fouling
on the wall and appliance through several principles: deviation of air
flows away from the wall to prevent the deposit of any particles,
smooth and easy-to-clean surfaces; limited surface temperature.
- Bathroom fan heater:
Appliance used to heat bathrooms, and dry or warm towels. It can be
equipped with additional heating by turbo-fan which increases the
rapidity of the heating.
- Centralised programming:
Programming system that remotely controls the appliances of one or more
rooms by pilot wires, mains borne signalling, radio, etc.
- Ceramic heating element:
Ceramic heating element fitted within a sealed enamelled sleeve in
electric and combi water heaters. It can be removed without draining
down the water heater. This sleeve has a large heat exchange surface,
which reduces the scale deposit and heating noise. The heating element
is never in contact with water. It is recommended for aggressive water.
- Chronopass:
System used to program the heating system in order to save energy. It
can adapt the heating level according to the lifestyle and needs of the
householders.
- COMFORT -1°C mode:
Mode that represents a drop in temperature in your room by - 1°C with
respect to the Comfort temperature. This is recommended, for instance,
when you leave your home for a period of under 2 hours.
- COMFORT -2°C mode:
Mode that represents a drop in temperature in your room by - 2°C with
respect to the Comfort temperature. This is recommended, for instance,
when you leave your home for a period of 2 to 4 hours.
- COMFORT mode:
Mode that controls the temperature on each of your heating devices so
that they supply a pleasant, that is, comfortable temperature (it is
advisable to heat rooms at 19°C to save energy).
- Convector:
Heating appliance that uses the principle of natural convection to heat
the ambient air: the air heats up in contact with a heating element and
becomes lighter: rising up. The heat is diffused throughout the room
and the temperature rises rapidly. These appliances feature a
thermostat that controls the temperature level.
- COP: Coefficient of Performance that measures the ratio between the energy
supplied and the energy used: for instance, a heat pump with a COP of 3
will consume 1 kWh of electricity and supply 3 kWh for the heating
system. Important note: before comparing values check that the
conditions of use are strictly identical. Operating parameters can
cause this value to vary.
- Digi Pilot:
Device that enables energy savings to be made with a simple programming
operation. The user can choose between 3 programs set in the factory
that correspond to the most common lifestyles. Simple buttons can be
used for temporary overrides for unexpected situations.
- Digital control:
Control accurate to a tenth of a degree; it can rapidly harmonise the
heat throughout the room and maintain a gentle, homogenous temperature
by preventing any drift (variation in temperature owing to the error
caused by the heating). It is also used to stabilise
the required temperature more rapidly.
- Digital thermostat: Thermostat accurate to +/-0.1°C. It ensures reliable and efficient temperature regulation.
- Duo Système:
Technological innovation that simultaneously heats the bathroom and
warms towels owing to the diffusion of heat forwards and at the sides.
- ECO mode:
Mode that represents a drop in temperature in your room by - 3.5°C with
respect to the Comfort temperature. For some appliances, this function
can be set between 1 to 10°C with the temperature reducing knob. This
is recommended, for instance, when you leave your home for any period
longer than 4 hours.
- Electronic thermostat: Thermostat accurate to +/-0.5°C.
- Embedded programming:
Programming carried out directly on the heating appliance. An appliance
equipped with this programming can control one or more rooms.
- FROST-FREE mode: Mode used to keep the temperature in your rooms at around 7°C.
- Inlet diffuser:
Part fitted on the cold water inlet that prevents the hot water and
incoming cold water from mixing together. It ensures that the best
possible use is made of the available hot water for the needs of the
user.
- Lip gasket:
Seal that makes the closure of the tanks watertight. The lip shape
prevents corrosion around the opening zone, which is always an area of
weakness. It is a sign of quality.
- Magnesium anode:
Anode that protects the tank against corrosion. Unlike the titanium
anode, it is consumed over time and must therefore be replaced. It is of
food-contact quality and can be changed. We recommend that it is
checked every 2 years.
- Mains borne signalling:
Technology used to transmit information for programming the heating. It
is ideal for existing housing and renovation housing. The information
circulates on the electrical current line without being disturbed. No
additional wiring is necessary to transmit the commands.
- Mechanical thermostat: Thermostat accurate from +/-2 to 4°C. For a vapour pressure thermostat, the accuracy is 0.8°C.
- O’PRO:
Technological innovation specific to water heaters fitted with an ohmic
resistance that balances out the electric potentials of the tank and
immersion heater. This resistance can provide a 50% increase the life
of the magnesium anodes protecting the water heaters.
- Ohmic resistance:
Heating element specific to direct immersion heating element water
heaters that balances out the electric potentials of the tank and
immersion heater. It increases the yield and life of the anode
(magnesium anode) and improves the anti-corrosion system (see O'PRO).
- Optimised heat exchanger:
Coil-type heat exchanger located in the lower section of indirect water
heaters or calorifiers (hot water or mixed). It enables the maximum
exchange of heat between the water of the tank and the energy supplied
by a source other than electricity (gas boiler, fuel oil, wood or
renewable energies (solar, heat pump). Its position fully heats the
tank and prevents the growth of bacteria (legionnaires' disease).
- Pass programm:
Universal programming system, with a digital screen, for heating. The
programming can provide a weekly adaptation for heating and make energy
savings up to 25%.
- Pilot wire:
"Technology used to transmit programming information for the heating,
perfect for new housing. Heating control orders are sent to the
appliances over a wire specific for this use. Principle: A ""master""
appliance sends the orders to slave appliances by means of the ""pilot
wire"".
- Program mode: Programming commands are taken into account.
- Radiant panel heater:
Heating appliance that provides a radiant heat (direct), giving a
pleasant sensation of heat, similar to that of sunlight. Radiant panel
heaters provide a homogenous temperature throughout the room. There is
very little difference in temperature between the floor and ceiling,
which is why radiant panel heaters are extremely suitable for living
rooms.
- Radiator:
Heating appliance that generates a gentle, enveloping heat from the
floor to the ceiling. The continuous, homogenous emission of heat
prevents hot-cold sensations. The radiators react rapidly and
efficiently to any change in temperature and optimise the energy used.
- Sheathed heating element:
Stainless steel or copper sheathed heating element installed the
electric or combi water heaters and directly immersed in the water. It
has outstanding performances and its heating filaments are protected to
prevent any short circuit.
- Temperature sensor:
Sensor that measures changes in room temperature, taking into account
free external heat provided (sunshine, occupants in the room). It is
generally located at the bottom of the heating appliance.
- Thermodynamic water heater: it combines a heat pump and a hot water tank. It uses the calories in the ambient air to heat the water, and can save up to 70% in electricity
- Titanium anode:
The specific characteristic of this anode is that it is not consumed,
in contrast with standard magnesium anodes. It is the link that
transfers the protective current that prevents corrosion. It is always
connected to the electronic board.
- Turbo + drying mode:
Operating mode of bathroom heaters designed for heating the room
rapidly and drying towels. The boosters are activated on appliances
fitted with them; on other appliances, the heating goes into override
operation.
- Turbo-fan:
Device located at the bottom of electric bathroom radiators, and as
standard on mixed models, that can pulse hot air to raise the
temperature rapidly throughout the bathroom. The sensor is fitted with
a dust filter that can be removed and cleaned.
